With the Loryc through the Tramuntana

If you want to explore the island in a handmade electric car, you now have the opportunity. With the Loryc the only car company created in Mallorca that an automobile fan has revived.

The German emigrant Karlheinz "Charly" Bosch made his dream come true on Mallorca: he built his own car and revived Loryc, the only car company that Mallorca ever owned. In his automobile, Charly travels with the past in a contemporary way: the tapered rear of the Loryc is reminiscent of the racing cars of the 1920s, but a modern electric motor buzzes under its sheet metal.

Majorca's historic car brand is a class of its own

The automobile company Loryc was founded in 1920 in Palma's inner city ring, the Avenidas, and survived for only five years. A hundred cars with the red and gold emblem rolled out of the factories at the time and only six of them are still roadworthy today - and Charly Bosch owns one of them. The rare collector's item was catching dust in a barn for 15 years until the automobile fan Bosch bought it from a Mallorcan family in 2013. In the same year he acquired the rights to the Loryc brand name. So it was only a matter of time before he started working on his classic car. Bosch removed the original motor and added an electric motor. Converted in this way, the Loryc makes hardly any driving noise and Mallorca's nature can be experienced with an undisturbed jaunt across the island.

The sustainable Loryc Electric is handmade

Today Charly Bosch builds his own Loryc in the industrial area near Santa Ponça - entirely by hand. The design is based on its original retro roadster and the racing version of the vehicle, which came third in the French Grand Prix in 1921. Components such as the brake, engine and steering are supplied and the body is made by Bosch himself from cut aluminium sheets which he processes with a mallet until they have the correct shape. The sustainable Loryc Electric, which has passed all tests at TÜV Rheinland and is officially approved for the road, takes more than 1000 working hours to build.

On a joyride with the Loryc through the Tramuntana

Bosch plans to produce three to five Lorycs a year in Mallorca - for lovers like him. Because the elaborate handwork has its price: around 120,000 euros have to be shelled out for a new Loryc. If you want to explore the Balearic Island yourself with an electric classic car, you can now. With more than 200 kilometres of real range, you can get pretty much anywhere in Mallorca - and back again. And the top speed of up to 90 km/h is completely sufficient for Mallorca's wonderful coastal roads.
