The future at sea: eco-mega yachts
Ever since climate activist Greta Thunberg sailed for the climate-friendly event in North America on the emission-free racing yacht "Malizia", eco-yachts have caused quite a sensation worldwide.
The 2015 built 18-meter boat of the German professional sailor Boris Herrmann drives completely emission-free and generates the necessary electrical energy on board with solar panels, underwater turbines and propellers at the rear.
Eco-boats consume 40 percent less
Even luxury yachts are becoming more environmentally friendly, for example by producing their own electricity and their own fresh water. But that's not all. The ideas of the Dutch shipyard Feadship go even further. With their concept yacht “Breathe” they want to imitate nature, with whale-fin stabilizers that generate speed, solar cells, light pipes and a curvy hull. This reduces fuel consumption by up to 40 percent at all speeds.
Mega yacht Savannah in Puerto Portals
Feadship also built the $ 100 million eco-yacht Savannah, which was located in Puerto Portals off the coast of Mallorca in October. The 84-meter-long mega yacht belongs to the Swedish-Canadian multimillionaire Lukas Lundin, who combines a single diesel engine, three power units, batteries and propellers with a ground-breaking electromechanical propulsion platform. Guests of the Savannah do not have to go without luxury on board, the mega-yacht includes a swimming pool, gym, lift, air conditioning, whirlpool and spa.
Charter eco-friendly boats in Mallorca
Majorca luxury charter companies are also focusing on the environment. Camper and Nicholsons advertises Blue Vision with its 44-meter eco-yacht, there is no plastic and parabens on board, water bottles are refilled with purified water, sheets and towels are cleaned with eco-detergent. The yacht rides on sustainable marine biofuel and guests decide for themselves how environmentally friendly they want to be on the road. While your boat consumes 240 l / h at 12 knots, fuel consumption is already halved with a relaxed 8 knots. The eco-catamarans of Bluebnc Boat Mallorca consume only about 10 l / h. The quiet electric motors and solar modules provide a particularly eco-friendly way to experience the waters between Ibiza and Mallorca.
