Pedruxella Gran is one of the most beautiful and significant original possessions in northern Mallorca. This centuries old working farm is situated on a 600 acre olive estate on the south facing slope in the heart of the Sierra de Tramuntana, a recently designated UNESCO reserve just outside the seaside town of Pollensa. While a world apart, it is also only a 15 minute drive to Pollensa and 20 minutes to the beach.

The main house features 9 bedrooms, 3 kitchens, multiple salons and dining areas, all tastifully decorated to accentuate the history of the house and estate. The exterior features two courtyards, large decorative gardens and an organic, permaculture vegetable garden, two lawns and a circular heated pool and grotto with spectacular views. Also on the estate is a guest lodge with a great hall and two bedrooms and 180 degree views of the mountains and the sea. This amazing property is completed by stables and barns, garages, an ancient aqueduct and one of the last - if not the last- ancient working olive presses, all surrounded by 500+ year old olive trees. Next to the property is a chalet with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths that can be purchased separately.

The oldest part of the main house is a Moorish tower, which dates from the XIII century. A nearby old Arabian arch is partly covered by a newer one with the date, 1810, chiseled into the mortar, reminding viewers that the house has had a long history. Once owned by the Templars, the property features a cave, named the Cave of Silver, for the silver guarded there during the crusades. The family that has owned the estate for nearly fiifty years has undertaken significant refurbishment of the house, including upgrades in all systems, new roofs, new heating and air conditioning. All the refurbishments were done with the best materials while maintaining history and feel of the house.

Six of the nine bedrooms are located in the main part of the house and another three are in two separate apartments that can be used for guests or help. There is a private library off the master bedroom to ensure privacy even when the house is full of family or guests. The main kitchen is the hub of the house, full of light and including top-of-the-line appliances and features its own fireplace and underfloor heating. The house has a numerous fireplaces and wood burning stoves.

The house flows beautifully around two courtyards, one called the "patio de Señores" and another called "patio de trabajo," which includes the historic olive press and the brick bread baking ovens that are still in use today. There are 2 stables near the house with 5 stalls and chicken and rabbit coops. A bit further up hill from the house is a large barn for hay and the sheep. The estate has plenty of indoor and outdoor garage space.

Surrounding the main house are cypresses, many varieties of fruit, and carob trees. The situation is idyllic - the estate is located high up, giving it a great feeling of privacy and protection with superior weather to locations down the slope. Its orientation makes it very sunny in the winter and cooler in the summer.

The estate has a long history of agricultural production, especially olives, and it produces an excellent commercial organic extra virgin olive oil. Its 200 year old olive press (or Tafona, in Catalan) - possibly the last working press of its kind in private hands on the island - is used to host a fiesta in the fall where olive oil is made in the traditional way. Using a stone mill turned by mule and an enormous oak press, under which baskets of olive mash are placed, oil is made from start to finish by fiesta participants.

A knowledgeable estate manager runs the daily operation of the estate and speaks English fluently. For the last few years, the family has hosted young scholars and volunteers who come from around the world to learn traditional methods in organic farming and olive oil production. The volunteers help support this wonderful farm throughout the year and during its olive harvest and oil production in the fall. The farming operations also receive significant support from the government in the form of subsidies for upkeep of the trees and terraces and for organic production.

Characteristics: The house features modern conveniences: air conditioning and heating through split systems in all rooms and most public areas, wifi throughout the interior and most of the common outdoor spaces; satellite TV and fixed line telephone. The gardens are watered by recently installed automatic watering systems. The water comes from the property. Most of the water is gravity fed from a spring high up above the house.

Property Condition: Ready to move in. The house has a touristic license and is used for high end rentals for extended families and friend groups as well as weddings and retreats. As a result, everything is in excellent working condition and meets the highest of standards.
