Club de Vela in Port Andratx celebrates it´s opening
The restaurant Club de Vela in the sailing club of Port Andratx was reopened with a big party. The new operator Giuliano di Mateo is no stranger to the celebrity village.
The Italian restaurateur of the Club de Vela is already running three successful restaurants in Port Andratx and plans to take over yet another restaurant: In April, he will reopen the former Pavarotti under the name of Papa Mu.
Dishwasher, pizza maker, chef and restaurant owner - Giuliano di Mateo is a professional in the restaurant scene. After his apprenticeship in Germany, the Italian moved back to the south in 2005, landing in Mallorca and opening a restaurant in Paguera. Four years later, he moved to his favorite town, Port Andratx, where he has since run the Rustico, the Bar Gwine and the Restaurant Miramar. The fans also include numerous prominent regular customers.
A diverse gastronomy in Port Andrtatx
"In recent years, the cuisine in Port Andratx has become more diverse and quality has improved," says Giuliano di Mateo. Contrary to his reputation, Port Andratx is by no means one of the island's most expensive pavements. "You can dine on a gourmet level, but also eat a very good and cheap pizza or a plate of pasta," said the restaurateur. In Papa Mu he wants to offer Italian "fast food" in the usual good quality with pizza, panini, wraps and burgers, also as a takeaway.
The kitchen at Club de Vela offers a modern mix of South American and Spanish dishes, such as scallops or sea bass ceviche, as well as freshly caught fish and meat. Of course you can also find a traditional paella on the menu and there is a three course lunch menu for 24 €. New at the Club de Vela is a lounge area where you can enjoy a good wine, ham, cheese and tapas - one or two evenings a month, accompanied by live music with piano and saxophone.
Cocktail with panoramic views of the harbor
The guests enjoy the most beautiful view from the large sunny terrace. The panorama glass panes are pushed back in the summer, where from the tables you have a clear view of the boats moored in the sailing club, the bay of Port Andratx and the sea. And with a little luck you will meet the owner of the house personally. Giuliano di Mateo owns three e-scooters, with which he travels daily between his restaurants and therefore in Port Andratx he is called the "Rollermann". We would like to know what he would serve his guests if Mallorca Gold was a cocktail? The restaurateur does not hesitate for long: "That must of course be gold! I would mix vodka, orange juice, aperol and pineapple to make a fruity drink. "
