Orange trees and their delicate little blossoms
Until about the end of May we’ll get to see their lovely little white blossoms again, which tend to hide so coyly between large green leaves.
Hundreds of thousands of orange trees all over the island are still carrying abundant fruit and the next florescence is already nearing. And don’t we all just love that gorgeous juicy and sweet fruit? Especially, if we can pluck one or two straight from the tree?
Some owners of properties with orchards have the pleasure of being able to get their own fruit off the tree just in time for breakfast. (see our property recommendations below)
Until about the end of May we’ll get to see their lovely little white blossoms again, which tend to hide so coyly between large green leaves. Not only are they beautiful to look at, but their essence is being used for the creation of captivating perfumes, but also to add a delicious aroma to baked goods. Yet another interesting fact is, that it can also be a medicinal substance and used as a remedy to calm nerves and other discomfort. And did you know, that it is considered an aphrodisiac too?
The fruit as such is just as versatile: freshly squeezed orange juice, orange blossom honey to sweeten the tea, Gató (Mallorcan almond cake) becomes juicier with a spoonful of orange jam, pizza becomes kind of exotic and particularly delicious with orange slices on top. Take a walk through “orange valley”, whose capital is charming and picturesque Sóller, and spoil your visual and olfactory senses.
