The magical spectacular in La Seu (the cathedral of Palma de Mallorca)
The thought, that this should be a biannually happening coincidence of nature is wonderful, but surely this spectacle of light was calculated very accurately.
Is it a natural phenomenon? Or was it “just” some talented architects doing a good job? The thought, that this should be a biannually happening coincidence of nature is wonderful, but surely this spectacle of light was calculated very accurately.
Every year both on the 2nd of February and on the 11th November at around 8 am, all those gather in the cathedral, who would like to witness, how the morning sun enters through the 9-m wide Eastern aligned rosette, how its shadow wanders along the Southern wall, arriving at approximately 8.30 am below the opposite rosette on the main façade, forming this way for a few minutes only a beautiful “8”.
If you want to experience it too, all you have to do is get up early and join the queue of the fans.
Palma holds so many more architectural treasures than the cathedral and enchants with her historic charm. To live in the old part of town is something special and we would be glad to help you find a suitable luxurious apartment or one of the traditional “gems” in need of renovation.
