Festes del Rei en Jaume 2017 : from 31/08 till 10/09/2017 the biggest event of Santa Ponsa, Calvia
The annual festival of the Rei en Jaume is celebrated at the beginning of September every year in Santa Ponsa, Calvià. The festival celebrates the successful landing of the fleet and the conquering of the Arabs in Mallorca by King Jaime I in 1229, in the area now known as Santa Ponsa.
The festive programme consists of more than 60 cultural, leisure and traditional activities for young and old, such as concerts, exhibitions, thematic fiestas, parades, traditional dancing, sports activities, etc. the festivities include a parade of giants, DJ sessions at the weekends, a 'night of fire' and a medieval market where you can sample all sorts of typical food and drink offerings.
The highlight of the festivities takes part on Saturday 9th September, when a re-enactment of the landings and the battles between the Moors and the Christians takes place on Playa Grande beach and Calo d'en Pellicer beach, with the final battle being held on Santa Ponça beach.
Expect firecrackers and much rejoicing!
